daily habits for a happy & healthy lifestyle

For years I have people coming up to me asking advice about their fitness and health. How do I lose 10kg in two months? How will I get skinny legs? I want a sixpack, what diet should I follow?

The first thing I will try with many is to make them see a different perspective and try to let them understand that maintaining a healthy lifestyle will give them longterm benefits over a quick 10kg journey. Which 9/10 times will returns unless they are willing to make changes in their daily lifestyle and of course stick with them.

But this also scares a lot of people, they feel like they need to give up everything what is normal to them now. And no human likes change, because we don’t know what this will do to us, we have not yet experienced the positive outcome of change around this situation. Change is scary, but nothing is more scarier than staying where you are now, unhappy with yourself. And what do you have to lose? You can get everything back, the unhealthy binge eating, the ups and downs in energy levels, the hangovers on Sundays, evenings snacking away behind Netflix and even your 10kg will be happily joining you again, and if you are lucky, maybe you gain even more!

I hope you guys can see the humor in my writing and still have your full attention at the moment because I will give your some advice on how to make some changes in your daily life that will benefit your health so your future you can thank you for it!

  1. Simply move.
Move your body, and I don’t mean HIIT work outs three times a week or going to the gym. I mean, go for a walk on your lunch break, grab your bicycle to work, do some dancing in your living room, clean the house with some good music on the background. You want to make sure that you move your body on a daily basis like how it’s meant to operate.
  2. Start to see food as nutrition.
What am I feeding my body? How am I nurturing my body? Get those veggies and fruits in your body every damn day. What are you giving your body to fuel yourself up? So that you feel energised and you can get more out of your day.
  3. BUT: Balance.
Life is all about balance. There is no point in feeling guilty and start seeing everything as something you can or can not eat. It is super important to fuel your body what greens but also being able to enjoy some delicious cake that you maybe even baked yourself with a lot of joy. Or drink a glass of wine that you share with your loved ones.
  4. Because: Mental health matters
What is bringing you joy? What will make you happy? What are your insecurities and what can you do to work passed them and work on a better version of you that is confident and happy. Who are the people closest around you and do they inspire you to become a better person? How we feel has an influence on the daily choices that we make, if you feel poor, you are most likely to make poor decisions.

Along the way your journey to health you will find out that a lot of has to come from inside of yourself. You need to figure out what food suits your body, only you know what is really bringing you happiness and what is driving you but this doesn’t have to go without any help.

I hope you find this helpful, and feel free to leave a comment if you have any questions

Love,
Nien
